The Bromwell Boutique Mall is Woodstock’s little darling and a hidden gem frequented by the Mother City’s trendy, fashion-forward crowd. This is where to go if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of conventional shopping malls and if you’re looking for a more intimate and personalised boutique shopping experience. Explore beyond the Bromwell’s crimson brick walls and discover some of South Africa’s best fashion design, accessories, jewellery, décor, art, ceramics and books.
The Bromwell was originally built as a hotel on Woodstock’s notorious Albert Road way back in 1927. By 2008 this great old dame was on the verge of collapsing, but was rescued and painstakingly renovated and restored to her former glory by MADWorld. The building still has its original pine flooring, meranti and teak fixtures, exposed rafters and stairwell. Today, the double storey building offers visitors a wide variety of prestigious brands, an elite retail experience and superb service, attracting both local and international visitors.
Previously a performance artist, Michelle Heslop runs the show and is the curator for the Bromwell. It’s inside these crimson walls that she gets to embrace her passion for life, people, expression and creativity. Her approach to curating is finding designers that are passionate, hard-working, creative and incredibly talented and she’s always on the look-out for the out-of-the-ordinary, the different and the slightly rebellious - but one thing remains non-negotiable: beauty.
